THE WHAT? L’Oreal has announced that not only will it comply with the Philippines’ Extended Producer Responsibility Act but go above and beyond the government-set targets. To that end, the manufacturer of Maybelline has partnered with PCX.
THE DETAILS The French beauty behemoth will recover, sort and recycle plastic equivalent to 100 percent of its annual plastic footprint in the country, starting this year. The government mandates 20 percent for 2023, 40 percent for 2024 and thereafter a 10 percent increase every year, hitting 80 percent in 2028.
THE WHY? The requirements are in line with L’Oreal’s wider sustainability commitments. As Yannick Raynaud, Country Managing Director of L’Oreal Group, Philippines, states, “L’Oreal is committed to promoting a circular economy. Our focus is to create products that reflect this aspiration.
“To amplify this vision, the group has committed to ensuring that 100 percent of the plastics used in L’Oreal’s product packaging will come from recycled or bio-based sources by 2030.”
