THE WHAT? Beiersdorf unveils its latest initiative advancing sustainability, climate defence, and circularity.
THE DETAILS Starting from 2023/24, Beiersdorf’s European deodorant lineup, encompassing brands like NIVEA, 8X4, Hidrofugal, and Hansaplast, will integrate a minimum of 50% recycled aluminium into their cans, which will also be 11.6% lighter, leading to a notable 58% reduction in the CO2e emissions associated with the aerosol can value chain
THE WHY? Beiersdorf’s newly established plant in Leipzig-Seehausen is central to this sustainable drive, specifically designed to uphold the company’s “Climate Care” ethos. The plant harnesses cutting-edge technology, uses exclusively renewable energy sources, and leverages biogas for heating purposes, operating in a nearly CO2e-neutral fashion. Furthermore, there’s an ambitious vision to transform this facility into an “Energy+” site, meaning it would produce more energy than it consumes through its renewable channels.
