THE WHAT? A Netherlands’ consumer group has filed a lawsuit against Amazon charging the e-commerce behemoth with violating EU privacy laws.
THE DETAILS According to a report published by the Wall Street Journal, the Stichting Data Bescherming Nederland (SDBN) is seeking damages for some 5 million Dutch account holders.
THE WHY? The lawsuit alleges that Amazon’s monitoring of visitors via cookies without their permission breaches EU privacy law. Legislation ushered in in June is designed to pave the way for class action cases of this type. Amazon denies the claims.
